The 2014 Cleveland Browns Season: A Season of Transition

An Overview of the Season

The 2014 Cleveland Browns season was a season of transition for the franchise. After a disappointing 4-12 record in 2013, the Browns hired a new head coach, Mike Pettine, and made several changes to their roster. The Browns finished the 2014 season with a 7-9 record, an improvement over the previous season, but still not good enough to make the playoffs.

Key Players

The Browns had several key players in 2014, including quarterback Brian Hoyer, running back Isaiah Crowell, and wide receiver Josh Gordon. Hoyer led the Browns to a 7-6 record as a starter, but he was injured in Week 13 and missed the rest of the season. Crowell rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2014, becoming the first Browns running back to do so since Jamal Lewis in 2007. Gordon led the Browns in receiving yards and touchdowns, despite missing the first 10 games of the season due to a suspension.

Coaching Changes

The Browns made several changes to their coaching staff in 2014. Pettine was hired as the new head coach, replacing Rob Chudzinski. Pettine brought in a new offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, and a new defensive coordinator, Jim O'Neil. The Browns also hired a new general manager, Ray Farmer, who was tasked with rebuilding the team's roster.

The Future

The Browns have a lot of work to do if they want to make the playoffs in 2015. The team's defense needs to improve, and the Browns need to find a more consistent quarterback. The Browns also need to add more depth to their roster, especially on the offensive line and in the secondary. Despite the challenges, the Browns have a lot of young talent on their roster. If the Browns can stay healthy and Pettine can develop the team's young players, the Browns could be a surprise team in 2015.
