South Sudan's men's national basketball team has made history by qualifying for the Olympic Games Paris 2024, marking the first time the country has competed in the Olympic basketball tournament.
The team's qualification comes after a successful campaign in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African Qualifiers, where they secured a spot in the tournament with an impressive performance. The South Sudan Basketball Federation is urging fans to show their support through purchasing official SSD Basketball gear, with all profits going directly back into funding the national teams and further developing basketball in South Sudan.
Among the notable players on the South Sudan roster is Majok Deng, a lanky South Sudanese-Australian who played in the team's recent wins over Great Britain and a narrow defeat to another opponent. Deng's contribution and the team's determination have played a significant role in their historic achievement.
The Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. South Sudan will take to the court for their first Olympic basketball game on July 28, marking a momentous occasion for the country and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team and its supporters.
